Job title: Communications Support Intern

Background
ECPAT International is a global network of civil society organizations working together to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights, free and secure from all forms of sexual exploitation.
The ECPAT network currently has 109 member organizations in 96 countries. All members are independent or coalitions – and work against the sexual exploitation of children. The secretariat of the network is based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Overall Purpose of the Position
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Communication Officer and alongside the Communications and Social Media Intern, the Communications Support Intern will be responsible for developing written material within the rubric of the existing communications strategy for ECPAT International. They will use their expertise in written news-style English to help the communications team to raises awareness about the sexual exploitation of children and action that can be taken to prevent and end it; inform interested parties about ECPAT’s approach; and convey successes and results.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Communication Officer:
- Ensure all written material conforms to existing guides and policies, including, but not limited to the terminology guidelines and editorial guidance
- Support the development of ongoing social media efforts by checking and editing tweets, posts and other material
- Support media liaison and outreach efforts by drafting media releases and ‘shepherding’ written responses to journalists
- Help generate “news buzz” about the organization by drafting web stories about successes, with a particular focus on the information uncovered by research programmes
- Support advocacy efforts by senior management staff by helping to craft and edit speeches and presentations
- Edit and check English on reports and other organizational publications on an ad-hoc basis
- Any other activities specified by senior management or supervisors.
Qualification requirements
Essential
- Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in either communications, journalism, public relations, media, social marketing, social media, development communication, or other related fields
- Excellent writing and editing skills in news-style English
- Excellent news-sense
- Native level of fluency in written and spoken English
Qualifications that will be considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience writing for a variety of target audiences with both social and traditional media
- Demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following fields:
· Development communication
· Campaigning
· Journalism
· Advertising or public relations
· Human rights
· Child rights
· Child protection
· Development.
- Demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following organization types:
· International, multilateral or global organization
· NGO
· Local, central or inter-governmental organization.
- Knowledge of French, Spanish or Russian, or the language of a member country or countries

- The ability to analyze complex information and simplify it for a range of different audiences
- Good personal strategies for dealing with stress and exposure to unpleasant work topics

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS A modest stipend of 15,000 Bath/month (around $460 USD) will be made available to the intern who is not sponsored by other organisations or institutions. All other costs related to the internship, i.e., travel, passport, visa or living costs in Bangkok, are to be borne by the intern or his/her sponsoring institution or organisation.
