Job Description
Position: Global Study on Sexual Exploitation of Children in Travel and Tourism
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Duration: Six months
Reports to: Director Global Study Sexual Exploitation of Children in Travel and
Tourism (SECTT)
Start date: 1 February or 1 March 2015
Overall Purpose of the Internship
The ECPAT International internship programme is designed to provide an opportunity to the eligible candidates to contribute to and learn about child protection issues, particularly children’s rights to live free of commercial sexual exploitation (CSEC). Interns are eligible to participate in the ECPAT International Secretariat activities, while expected to carry out the duties assigned to them under the responsibility of the designated manager.
Objectives
- Provide overall support to the Global Study on Sexual Exploitation of Children in Travel and Tourism;
- To provide assistance in research on Sexual Exploitation of Children in Travel and Tourism, including editing;
- To support implementation of advocacy related work against CSEC.
Specific Responsibilities
- Conduct research for briefing papers, technical papers, concept notes, and publications on various child rights issues;
- Prepare presentations, handouts, briefing notes etc.;
- Reference and bibliography checking;
- Edit research documents;
- Organise ECPAT workshops, capacity building events and other meetings;
- Compile Global Study news for the ECPAT Hub, social media, ECPAT website and the quarterly Global Study newsletter;
- Support in organizing internal meetings, note taking and follow-ups;
- Support in the monitoring of work plans, reporting obligations (quarterly and donor reports);
- Maintain and update information on external contacts;
- Prepare background materials, working papers for travel, briefing and review sessions;
- Provide other administrative support as needed.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in international development, international relations, human rights
or other relevant degree;
Strong research and writing skills;
Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise formats;
Good knowledge of computer applications including website updates etc.;
Able to work in multi-cultural teams;
Ability to work independently and under pressure;
Excellent English writing skills
Internship conditions A modest stipend of 10,000 Bath/month (around 275 USD) will be made available to the intern who is not sponsored by other organizations or institutions. All other costs related to the internship, i.e., travel, passport, visa, insurance and living costs in Bangkok, are to be borne by the intern.
